Hello families!

Quick math update! In fifth grade we have been working on a lot of new things. We currently are working on multiplying and dividing by powers of 10. To practice this we have been playing Exponent Ball, which is a spin off of football, and reviewing in class. In sixth grade we have been working on balancing equations and having each side of the equal sign to be equivalent. We began practicing this with pan-balances and making sure that both sides of the balance are equal. This was a great way to visualize the math problems we were going to work with.

As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns!

Math Class Update

Hello 5/6 Families,

This week in math class we have made a lot of progress and worked very hard!

In fifth grade we continued to review adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions! After we come back from break we will have an assessment.

In sixth grade we took an assessment on data and geometric concepts. We will be starting a new unit when we get back from the break!

Have a wonderful week!

In Math Class Recently...

Hello Families!

The past couple weeks fifth grade has been studying fractions! We have discussed how to find common denominators and how important that is for adding and subtracting fractions. We have also learned how to multiply fractions. We started working on dividing fractions, but have most recently been reviewing adding and subtracting fractions for a Unit Assessment that we will have after April Break!

In sixth grade, we finished our unit on area, surface area, and volume, and began a mini unit on data. We learned about mean, median, and modes of data sets, how to make dot plots, and learned about histograms. We will be having our Unit Assessment this upcoming Tuesday, April 9th! Please review with your children.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions!

Best,
Ms. Moran

Math Update

Hello Families!

So sorry for not posting recently! Here's a quick math update!

5th: We have started working on adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. We are working on finding common denominators, and using different strategies to get common denominators.

6th: We have recently started a geometry lesson! This has been a great opportunity for students to work hands-on with their learning! We are working on building different shapes and using previously learned math information to determine surface area of various shapes.

I hope you have a great day,
Ms. Moran

5th and 6th Grade Math Class Update

Good evening!

My name is Maureen Moran and I am the fifth and sixth grade math teacher. In fifth grade we have begun working on converting improper fractions into mixed numbers and mixed numbers into improper fractions. In sixth grade we have been working on adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals. We have also begun working on long division with the US traditional algorithm.

I offer walk-in tutoring sessions every Monday and Wednesday from 7:30-8:00 AM.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns!
